Something to be Happy about.
Hello everyone,
Life is great these days at the ORH. The patio is open. If you have never had the opportunity to come and sit on our luxurious, and urban patio, you must make an effort to come down for lunch, dinner or a show. It's one of the highlights of our summer business, as said by regular patrons.
Another great thing about our location is we are 4 blocks south of Busch Stadium, so when our Cardinals are in town, we FILL UP. Before and after the games, we are packed with the best of the best fans and we have parking available with just a short walk from the game.
Right now we have the "Cards got you Covered" deal happening for every home game. Bring that day's game ticket stub in and we WAIVE THE COVER FEE for the show that night. In these times, that is saving you a couple bucks for a good show. We also have parking deals: park in our lot and we will reimburse you with food, and/or drinks after you come back in and stay awhile. IT PAYS OFF TO COME INTO THE OLD ROCK HOUSE.
We have new Happy Hour specials, as well:
All Day Every Day Specials
$2 Drafts (Bud, Bud light, Bud Select, Bud Ale)
$3 Wells
New Happy Hour Pricing: Tuesday- Friday 3-7pm
$1 Drafts (Bud, Bud light, Bud Select, Bud Ale)

St. Patrick's Day parade: downtown!

This past weekend was amazing. Great people came out to see Paint the Earth and chow down on some excellent BBQ and Brats from the Old Rock House tent and main stage. So good, we sold out of all the food we came with, and beer was selling long after the show was over. Here are some highlight pictures:

The Movies and Pop Tour

Last night the Movies and Pop tour played at the Old Rock House. Making a stop on their westbound tour, the three-course bill consisted of Me, the Machine; The Soundtrack; and Yearling.
As I walked in at 9:30pm, Me, the Machine was mid-set. I gathered comments like “These guys are f---ing hilarious,” and “I did not think they would sound like this.” Very true statements, indeed. The three-piece from Florida consist of Joshua Hull, Mat Musto, and Barry McMahon is very Steve-Carrell, dry humored—on top of knowing how to play their instruments. I only caught the last two songs but I was very impressed by the toe-tapping rhythm they gave me in my whole 15 minutes of seeing them. Up next was The Soundtrack: fronted by Rachael Petit, followed by Dylan Wahlstrom, Pat Cash, Shaan Singh and Dan LaCasse. I was stoked to see this group live. In my research on the Movies and Pop tour I found myself getting the same great feeling I have when I listen to Paramore, No Doubt or The Distillers—just a very empowering, female-pride consistency in my jawbone that keeps me smiling the whole time I see a chick doing her thing with a bunch of dudes backing her up. Amazing. The Soundtrack killed it with their fun-loving attitude on stage and very cool, confident glow from the lime-light. In my opinion, they stole the show, and the tour. Yearling closed the show—headlining the tour. I still tried to pick out the parts of Sid Menon, coming from his old metal roots in Glass Casket, and tried to see where they have gone with enduring this pop-punk quartet. The answer was simple: there is still a deep-rooted, pain-staking disclaimer at the end of each syllable he sang. The only empty-clammer that metal music can relay, this band is testing out “happy hardcore metal.” Mike on drums adds harmony to Sid’s vocals with heavy rhythm and bass from Tony and Ryan on guitar.
After getting off stage, I started talking to the band members about how the tour was going. Dylan from the Soundtrack expressed how supportive his family has been, and how it’s been one show after the other with mixed crowds and venues. “I really like your place. Some places have been opened for years and they still don’t get it.” Josh the merch guy stated to me after I told him how young of a place we still are. Rachael explained how being the only girl on the tour isn’t as bad as the ratio makes it seem. Being an eleven to one ratio boys to girl is hard to fathom: all those inside jokes, stinky clothes and sharing of hair products with a bunch of dudes might have killed me by the end of the tour, but she differs. “We are all like brothers in this tour. We all just met like four days ago, and we have our differences but we work through them like family—its actually a lot of fun.”
Shaan let me in on some of the games they play on the road. “There is this one game we have, where no matter where you are, if you get hit with someone throwing up the goggles at you—and you don’t block it, you have to lay down…no matter where you are.” He goes on to show me the sign language of this game, and told me I am now involved with the joke…and of course, like the novice I am at the game…I had to lie down on the main floor of the Old Rock House because I wasn’t quick enough to block the goggles from him.
Overall, this was an excellent show. Girls adoring Mat from Me, the Machine by wearing shirts with his name on them...to escorting the boys from the Soundtrack to the bathroom in our office so they could flat-iron their hair—this was definitely one tour I hope comes back through.

MARDI GRAS IS NEAR!
Hello World:
As the months fly by, we are heading directly into a prime party season: Mardi Gras. With our beads locked and loaded, Gumbohead on deck, and a wailing menu of Cajun favorites we assume that Mardi Gras will be hitting us up for a midafternoon party after the awesomeness of Soulard Mardi Gras parade turns into a relaxed state.
As promotions goes, I foresee our efforts doing some good. We have been hitting the STL surface at a soft, swift pace--trying not to overdo the exclamation of how awesome we see this Mardi Gras being, but still letting people know we are here, and we will be your rest stop for anything you need: Music, dancing, drinks, bathrooms, beads, food, meeting zone, parking, etc. We love when there are events going on and we can accommodate all the people walking by, or driving by with what we have to offer.
Music Updates:
Cafe Soul hit off their first "last Saturday of the month" with the Old Rock House. We just organized a three month deal with Nicole of Cafe Soul, that will save a place for each LAST SATURDAY dedicated to none other than the original St. Louis, and national level R&B and Soul musicians and artists. Its a pure joy to have the sensuality and deep rhythm and blues that they will be bringing us. Teresa Payne turned heads, like always with her voice and we look forward to her again at Sweet Soul Spot, which is EACH 2nd WEDNESDAY of the month: so its like the double dose of R&B with these two events. Sweet Soul Spot kicks off their Showcase tomorrow at the OLD ROCK HOUSE.
On the House:
If you have not subscribed to our monthly newsletter, ON THE HOUSE, then you should. Please contact: Lauren Colvin: lauren.colvin@oldrockhousestl.com for info on signing up: free, and informative ON THE HOUSE is the devine eBlast for the busy person on the go. Lets you know about upcoming shows that we believe will be worth every penny, and in house updates regarding our happy hours, menu, parties, etc. You must be informed!
We are moving forward in so many outlets. With partnering up with local media outlets to get the word out about the upcoming All Star Game, to being on board with 105.7 The Point for future shows, and hosting parties for Pointfest. We are surely making headway toward our goal at being the IT SPOT for live music and promotional parties.
Be sure to check our fliers in the upcoming issue of RFT, and out and about in your nooks in St. Louis.

We are surely making headway toward our goal at being the IT SPOT for live music and promotional parties.
Be sure to check our fliers in the upcoming issue of RFT, and out and about in your nooks in St. Louis.

What we do.
The world is cold and the Old Rock House is warm in spirit with lots of familiar faces and great bands who are coming through as the year rolls on. We have plenty to offer as far as shows go, either on a One time show, monthly, or weekly basis. And the crowds are growing more diverse as the weeks roll on and our booking manager, Brian Nolan is trying his hardest to win a national-level artist to put us on the map.
1. Kind Tuesdays with the Schwag: a weekly show, every Tuesday. The best in Grateful Dead tributes, and a St. Louis favorite. Maybe its the meditation that the band ingests before hitting the stage, in our cigar lounge that makes the place wreak of humility and a soft comfort that is nag champa, jam sessions and the words once played by Jerry Garcia himself...inside this place. As the weeks go on, more and more people (mostly young adults) come in to see the lighting, feel the groove and sway with about 200 other people feeling the same reaction to what being Kind is all about. You should come by and sway with us sometime. Starting 8pm, every Tuesday.
2. On a monthly basis, Suite Soul Spot is putting the groove in our venue every 2nd Wednesday of the month. Vanita Applebum has been placing much thought into hosting an R&B event that will get people on the floor dancing and singing along while they attend this monthly event. The SSS is only growing. With names well-known like Teresa Payne and Kenny DeShields, its only a bright future ahead for the Old Rock House and this kind of soiree that is anticipated and well planned for the months ahead.
3. Scion drops by monthly. Yes, the car company--they not only are taking over the world of automobiles, but now Scion is getting Hip Hop out there in another type of vehicle--touring venues across the USA. Bun B of UGK has already made his presence known in our venue, and this month we look forward to the Beatnuts performing live with Connie Price and the Keystones(actually this Saturday.) All shows are FREE, with registration and RSVP to scion.com/livemetros: this acts like a guestlist for all who sign up, and there are no scams involved---they dont even make you buy a new car. Awesome reaction to the big names coming through and we are more than grateful to be a part of this fantastic event.
4. Cafe Soul is also on a monthly schedule with us. This month being the first month to actually host them, they will be bringing the R&B on the last Saturday of each month. This one, January 31st. You must attend! Very similar to Suite Soul Spot, Cafe Soul is a locally-based R&B group who insists on getting nothing but the best of our city's artists. Great for Saturday Date Night!
That is a look into what is going on lately. As always, you can visit www.oldrockhousestl.com or upcoming shows. Or lets be friends on myspace and you will always be in the know: myspace.com/theoldrockhouse

Welcome 2009!
Greetings from the Old Rock House!
First of all, so happy to be welcoming in a new year, with a lot of changes happening around our establishment. Please, if you have not dropped by for a show, lunch, happy hour, or dinner please set your GPS to 1200 S. 7th St., St. Louis, MO 63104. What an amazing New Year's Eve party we had. The most we have ever rang in with our business all because we know how to have a great time. Madahoochi and Speakeasy on the bill, as well as a champagne toast celebration FREE to the paid in, and all things went smoothe.
Not only the changes happening over the last year have been quite productive, but 2009 is bringing in an abundance of 'new' for the Old Rock House. New bands, new faces, new specials, new additions, and most importantly, a new direction.
If you have stumbled upon this blog and have never heard of us, or need more info: please go to our website: www.oldrockhousestl.com or be our friend and hear about upcoming shows at www.myspace.com/theoldrockhouse
We look forward to this year and hopefully to your business.
Stay tuned for more blogging and rants about the Old Rock House, Saint Louis.
